About Cassandra Brennan
Hi, I'm Cassandra.
I want to first take a moment to thank you for coming to my site. I know that seeking support is not a linear journey- nor is it easy to begin. Yet, here you are! I am grateful that your path brought you here.
My name is Cassandra, I use they/them pronouns and identify as non-binary. I am a Registered Psychotherapist, Creative Arts Therapist and Drama Therapist practicing virtually in the Greater Toronto area.
My path to becoming a therapist was also a winding road. I am a graduate of York University's Devised Theatre program, as well as Concordia University's Master of Arts in Creative Arts Therapies (Drama Therapy option). I have since completed further training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). My background has taught me the value of approaching our mental health with creativity and curiosity. This approach welcomes playful moments of discovery and opens the door to a more meaningful connection together in therapy. I believe you already have all of the tools for healing within you. I am simply here to accompany you and facilitate change by sifting through your many strengths with you.
My clinical experience includes working with youth and adults in community centres, private practice, crisis intervention and trauma counselling settings. I work to support clients who are facing a range of challenges including anxiety, stress management, trauma recovery and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (phobias, intrusive thoughts etc). Please feel free to navigate to the 'Our Services' tab for more details on common concerns that I may offer support with.
As a white, settler therapist I seek to regularly engage in conversations, workshops and other communal discussions to decolonize both my practice and my own way of being. I view cultural humility as a central component of ethical practice in therapy. I recognize the impact of various systems of cultural oppression such as racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, transphobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and others on the clients that I work with and their communities. I am grateful and privileged to be able to practice in the traditional territories of the Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples.
